The dashed red line indicates our flight from Panama City to Cartagena in the north of Columbia.  The solid red line is the route we cycled along the northern coast of Colombia to Venezuela.  The decision to include Columbia in our route involved much deliberation - we have included some of our general thoughts in the Panama section where the decision was made (see The Columbia Route).
