| It was on this stretch that we saw a grizzly bear. These are larger than the black bears with males measuring a scary two meters from nose to tail. We thought we were safe on the other side of the river but he crossed it within a few seconds so we had to make a swift exit shielded by a car. |

| Relatives at home were worried about reports of forest fires in Canada while we were there. Although we didn’t pass through any sections which were burning, we did see plenty of evidence of recent fires. |
